DMSI Machine Washing Instructions

DMSI Machine Washing Recommendations For
Looped-end Dust Mops & Wet Mops

DMSI is providing these washing and drying recommendations based on typical results.  Results and processing recommendations could vary based on the type of machinery being used as well as the type of mops being processed.  For example, when drying mops the amount of time will vary greatly depending on the type of yarn spinning and fiber content.  Cotton and Rayon fibers and cotton yarn blends will take two to three times longer to dry then synthetic blend yarns.  The drying times will also vary based on water temperatures used in the wash cycle and extraction speeds.  Operators should watch drying loads carefully to determine the best drying temperatures and time necessary to properly dry different types of mops without creating fire hazards.  Dryers should never be left unattended when processing any mop products.

    1. Sort mops by yarn color and process each color separately to prevent fiber transfer and the mixing of colors.
    2. Netting should be performed for any products that require laundering with care.
    3. Load machine to capacity.  A general guideline for wet mops is small mops weigh .75/lbs, medium mops weigh 1./lbs, large mops weigh 1.5/lbs, and      X-Large mops weigh 2./lbs.  Dust mop weights can be calculated based on a 24" mop weighing 1/lb and all other sizes being proportionate to that measure.  Example:  If you are operating a machine rated for 150 lbs. of material and you are washing large wet mops weighing 1.5/lbs each you will want to load 100 mops for optimum performance and efficiency.
    4. Wash Cycle:
        1. Using warm to hot water, raise level to a high level, usually within 2” from the machines maximum level.
        2. Add detergent based on the manufacturers recommended measure and run a low agitation rinse for 8 minutes. Use a low alkaline or low caustic detergent for longer product life.
        3. Drop detergent bath and refill machine with warm to hot water to the same high level and run a low agitation rinse bath for 3 minutes.
        4. Depending on the type of detergent used additional 3 minute rinse cycles may be necessary.
        5. Extract using high speed extraction for 2-4 minutes. The extraction speed should not exceed 450 rpm’s. (The higher the speed of extraction the shorter the drying time required )

    5. Machine dry mops using temperature not to exceed 180 degrees F.  Do not over-fill dryers.
    6. Clean lint traps after each drying load of mops.
