Dust Mops-Quality

Dust Mops:
Dust mopping is critical to any good floor care program for the removal of both large and small particles of dust and other matter left from traffic in any given area. Dust mopping a floor area is more efficient and less fatiguing then wet mopping the same area. A good dust mopping program will reduce the amount of wet mopping applications needed to maintain floors for a professional appearance. A good dust mopping program will reduce the amount of dust particles which can become airborne and cause health problems or require more costly methods for cleaning and removal. Dust mops are typically used dry and will be less abrasive to floor finishes than wet mops, brooms or brushes. DMSI also markets Golden Star’s patented closed-loop yarn technology which provides a pre-laundered product that eliminates the need for chemical treatment of the dust mops for good dust removal.
The basic types of dust mops sold in the U.S. today would be the following:
1.) Cut-end cotton blend dust mop: These mops are usually purchased for the low cost. Most of these mops are sold as launderable style mops, but must be netted for laundering and will hold up to only a few processings. Once laundered, the yarn on this type of mop will become matted so that there is very little yarn surface to actually pick up dust. The owners of DMSI have had many years of experience with this type of mop and find the biggest problem is that the cut-end yarn becomes a fire hazard in the driers. Simply stated, when you buy a dust mop with cotton cut-end yarn you are really buying a disposable product in which you are taking chances when you launder the product. A good closed-loop dust mop can be purchased for a cost as low as this cut-end style dust mop and withstand up to 100 un-netted launderings. For these reasons, DMSI does not include this product in our offering and would not recommend its purchase or use by any commercial mop user who wants a product that can be laundered repeatedly.
2.) Looped-end cotton and synthetic blend dust mop: There are two basic types of looped- ends provided on dust mops. There is a closed-loop and an open-loop. The closed-loop technology was invented and patented by Golden Star and is considered the best option for Industrial Laundry style dust mops. Closed-looped yarn technology is unmatched because it provides numerous benefits including superior dust pick-up and removal, it is pre-processed and does not require the use of chemical treatments, will hold up to a large number of un-netted laundering processes, nearly eliminates the fire hazards seen with other mops, does not snag on chairs, furniture and other articles in the mopping area like an open-looped yarn, and when manufactured with a synthetic yarn blend it will reduce your laundry processing time and cost by more than 50%.
3.) Electro-static synthetic dust mop: These mops hold a static electric charge created by friction from the motion of the mop against the floor. The static attracts fine dust particles and holds them to the mop yarn. At DMSI we have improved on this technology and provide this type of mop with microfiber yarn which allows for better pick-up and retention than traditional mops manufactured with this type of technology. The products are generally 100% synthetic, which reduces the processing costs and all but eliminates fire hazards associated with cotton yarns.
4.) Microfiber Pads: In the last few years microfiber pads have been extensively marketed in the U.S. Microfiber yarn technology was created in Asia and nearly all of the products are still manufactured in Asia. Microfiber yarn (split fiber technology) offers good soil absorption because the smaller fiber can hold smaller particles of dust. The limitation with microfiber pads is that they are extremely efficient but only contain a small surface area to hold dust. Once that surface area is full it is no longer an effective dust control tool. Therefore microfiber becomes a good dust control tool for small areas and where traffic is very limited.
DMSI offers three different yarn styles in dust mops:
1.) Closed-Loop Synthetic Yarn Blend: This patented process created by Golden Star is the best product for any dust mop application requiring a product that is an effective dust control tool and withstand repeated launderings. On the floor you will have a product with superior dust pick-up and retention capabilities without the use of treatment, and in the laundry you will have a product that will reduce your processing costs, reduce processing hazards and not require netting. Additional Product: Closed-Loop Synthetic Wedge Mop: Included in our product offering we have a wedge mop dusting head made from the same high quality yarn and fabric as our regular dust mop. The wedge mop is a perfect solution for those dusting applications on walls, pipes and other non-floor related areas and is also a good solution for floor applications in small stores or shops which will have chairs and tables and other obstacles to dust around. The 5” x 10” tapered construction allows this mop to get into those tight areas and do a superior job as compared to brooms and will be less abrasive to the floor surface.
2.) Open-Loop Microfiber Yarn: This product is manufactured with a traditional dust mop style backing to be used with a traditional style clip-on handle and frame, and is manufactured with microfiber continuous filament yarn for greater yarn pick-up and retention. The microfiber yarn will be more bacteria resistant than traditional spun yarns and will cover a far greater floor area then traditional microfiber dusting pads. This product should be used without treatment, needs no netting for laundering and will withstand more than 100 processings. The construction is 100% synthetic, so you will experience greatly reduced processing costs as compared to other traditional dust mops.
3.) Cut-end Disposable Cotton Yarn Blend: This mop is designed to be a cost effective disposable dust control tool and is not recommended for laundering. These mops are pre-treated and ready for use, and will provide good dust pick-up and retention. When you have a dust control application that requires a low cost disposable product this is a good choice.
