Commercial Dust Mops: Closed-Loop vs Microfiber vs Disposable Cotton

If you can launder, buy a launderable closed-loop dust mop. DMSI's twisted closed-loop dust mop picks up and holds dust without mop treatment and launders without netting. Choose the industrial microfiber closed-loop dust mop when you want microfiber built for durability, in sizes up to 72 inches. Use cotton disposable dust mops only when you have no way to launder. Whatever you pick, buy the frame in the same length as the mop head.

Twisted closed-loop dust mops

The Twisted Closed-Loop Dust Mop is DMSI's standard launderable dust mop. The closed-loop yarn launders repeatedly without wear and doesn't need a laundry net. It also reduces the fire hazards associated with drying cut-end cotton yarns, and DMSI puts the washing and drying effort at about half of what most other mops require. It picks up and holds dust without mop treatment, ties onto the frame with tie tapes and is 5" wide.

Colored mops use a synthetic yarn blend and white mops use a cotton yarn blend. Six colors make it easy to keep mops assigned to specific buildings or areas. If you need everything at once, the Dust Mop Complete Kit includes one twisted closed-loop head, a matching frame and a handle, in blue or white, from 18" to 60".

Microfiber closed-loop dust mops

The Industrial Microfiber Closed-Loop Dust Mop uses 80/20 microfiber yarn with the loops twisted closed. Large open loops on other microfiber dust mops can snag and tear, leaving webs of microfiber yarn during and after laundering. Closed loops avoid that and put more surface area on each strand to attract and hold dirt and dust. With an industrial heat-set backing and sizes up to 72", it's the choice for large open floors and crews that want a long-lasting, energy-efficient head.

The Blue Industrial Microfiber Dust Mop is a different build: 100% continuous filament lintless microfiber that picks up dust with electrostatic properties. It's bleach resistant, mildew resistant and launders without premature wear. No treatment and no netting are needed. It covers far more floor than a microfiber pad and uses standard dust mop handles and frames, not the microfiber aluminum handle and frame sets.

Cotton disposable dust mops

Cotton Yarn Disposable Dust Mops are the economical choice when you have no laundry processing. A heavy non-woven backing and a bottom center row of yarn add dust pickup. They come pre-treated unless you order untreated, which is offered in natural cotton only.

Sizes, frames and handles

DMSI's dust mops run from 18" to 72" depending on style. Shorter heads are easier to steer around furniture and into tight spaces; longer heads cover open floors in fewer passes. Match the frame to the head length:

  • Heavy-Duty Dust Mop Frames: heavy steel wire with a corrosion-resistant coating, sized 5" wide for standard dust mops, in 18", 24", 36", 48", 60" and 72".
  • Dust Mop Handles: heavy-duty metal handle clips, in 60" wood, 60" solid one-piece aluminum, telescopic aluminum that extends to 72" (about 77" overall with the clip), or 60" fiberglass in yellow, blue, red, orange, green or gray.

Crews already on microfiber flat mop hardware can dust with the Microfiber Hook and Loop Dust Mop with Fringe Yarn instead. It comes in 18", 24", 36" and 48", attracts dust by static with no treatment, and attaches to a flat or channel frame. For corners, walls and ceilings, DMSI's Wedge Dust Mop has a triangular head that swivels 180 degrees.

FAQ

Do closed-loop dust mops need dust mop treatment?

No. DMSI's Twisted Closed-Loop Dust Mop picks up and holds dust without treatment, and the Blue Industrial Microfiber Dust Mop needs no treatment either.

Can dust mops be washed without a laundry net?

Yes, for the Twisted Closed-Loop and Blue Industrial Microfiber dust mops. Netting is not required for either.

What size dust mop frame do I need?

Buy the frame in the same length as the mop head. DMSI's Heavy-Duty Dust Mop Frames are 5" wide and come in 18", 24", 36", 48", 60" and 72".

What is the difference between treated and untreated disposable dust mops?

DMSI's disposable dust mops come pre-treated unless you order untreated; treated is the default for both the natural cotton and blue yarn versions. Untreated is offered in natural cotton only, for programs that don't want a pre-treated mop.

Will a microfiber dust mop fit a flat mop frame?

The Blue Industrial Microfiber Dust Mop won't; it uses standard dust mop handles and frames. For a flat or channel frame, use the hook-and-loop fringe yarn dust pad.
